ABOUT ME
I am a 22 year old horror movie buff from Toledo, Ohio. I began to critically review films when I became an English major at the University of Toledo, where I began to write my own stories and get an understanding for the art of storytelling. I discovered Letterboxd and felt like I belonged in the realm of critically reviewing movies and discovering why some films worked and others did not. My favorite horror films include Scream, The Invisible Man, and Alien, where my non-horror favorites are Bridesmaids, A Simple Favor, and Heathers. In my high school years I was more interested in dramatic TV shows until I was disillusioned and become more invested in the art of film making. I also have interests in pop music and I spend a lot of time analyzing the Billboard charts, although that is more of a trivial hobby. Aside from the entertainment industry, I really enjoy cooking, spending time with my family and friends, and spending time in nature. I have a black cat named Salem, who I loosely consider to be my familiar if I lived in Greendale.
ABOUT THIS BLOG
I hope this blog can be interactive and informative. I write reviews for almost every movie I watch in my notes app, and want to give them the light of day. I do not plan to use this blog as just a reviewing space; I hope I can expand it into different areas of my life as well. I love to write and articulate my thoughts and ideas, and this is a great vehicle to show them to the world. I am not an expert or professional in anything, but I have done a lot of research alongside college courses that I feel have prepared me for this. I really tend to review and articulate horror movies, simply because that is what I know best. I am very well versed in the history of horror in film and am able to identify influences and novelty. I prioritize the writing of movies, where other production elements are subordinate in my reviews.

A movies ability to not take itself too seriously and have fun with ridiculous and irreverent moments, e.g. Cursed (Craven, 2004).

Novelty
Showing me something I have never seen before will immediately draw in my attention and get me thinking, e.g. Alien (Scott, 1979).

Overall I want to walk away from the film feeling gratified with a sense that it was worth my time, e.g. The Heat (Feig, 2013).

Being able to be immersed in the film’s subject matter and execution of its premise without ennui, e.g. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (Lawrence, 2023).

Production
Noticing endowed direction, design, editing, and effects that allow the film to come to fruition, e.g. The Thing (Carpenter, 1982).

Appeal
Being aesthetically pleasing to the story that is being told in favor to captivate it’s target audience, e.g. Clueless (Heckerling, 1995).
